Sensible chi chi. Likewise only my bags sit in two buckets. Paper either gets shredded or goes on the wood burner. And I am not going to buy bin liners whilst I can get free Morrisons bags.
My kitchen bin is a free carrier bag too held up with the hendles over the side of a kitchen drawer by the back door - I just use ones I have from shopping and have a stash of bin liners with handles for anything bigger. Cardboard (mostly cat food boxes) are put on the side then put in the recycling bin. Only me and the cats so we don't generate much rubbish.
I often have one by the front door too for random junk mail and the neverending supply of takeaway menus and such I get (perks of living near studentville and the curry mile) which go in the paper recycling bin too.
I also stack the free weekly paper up which is used in and under the cats' litter tray. I don't buy any newspapers (or magazines), read news online or watch it.
I forgot I also have a container for veggie waste which goes in the composter. That is just a cheap plastic container with a lid. Our bin collections are fortnightly for recycling and likewise for other rubbish. Ours bins are never more than half full.
As sherrardk says, she was given one, so obviously people do buy overpriced objects but I wonder how many people buy this

We have just been given another bin by the Council. I now have a wheelie bin for real rubbish, a small brown bin for waste food, and a black box and a green box which I have not yet worked out. I know it's plastics, washed and squashed in the green box, so that's one thing settled. That is not counting my kitchen bin.
Mine is a bucket with Tesco bag in cupboard under sink. Only bottles & tins as everything else is on log fire & leftover food fed to the birds. Ash from fire is emptied into field.
My kitchen swing bin is a Brabantia one, although it was expensive, I thought it would look smart as its stainless steel but its a real pain to keep shiny. I now took a tip from this site and use baby oil to polish it.
AND
Don't get me wound up on the question of bins and recycling .... next week our beloved council will be charging £32 for an extra garden rubbish wheelie bin (previously been free and was a Godsend, we haven't got room for 3 wheelie bins so hubby will have to go to the tip every week. The two bins we already have will now hold - brown for mixed up paper, plastics and glass all in together (they will now have to sort instead of how it is at the moment separated in small boxes) and a black bin for all other rubbish. Our previous system worked so well but it seemed anything which works well and everyone likes in our town is altered by our short sighted council. We are all cross about it in our town - I don't know anyone in favour!
That seems a bit of a backwards step Ann. We have a three bin system, luckily we have room for them, one for garden and food waste, one for card, paper, glass, plastics (including yoghurt pots and meat trays etc) and the third for non-recyclables. It works really well for us, apart from the embarrassing tell-tale crash and tinkle when my wine bottles go into the lorry!
I have a main grey bin for general rubbish, blue bin for paper, brown for glass/foil/plastic bottles and green for garden. Green is weekly collection, the other two weekly but that's more than enough for me.
I've just seen about the boxes so had a look on the council site and have ordered some free caddies so I can hopefully do more with food waste and such. I've just looked up what I can put in each bin and actually far more than I thought!
