As I understand it, America has some three or four aircraft-carrier battle groups in the Gulf area. As Australia has been asked by the USA to send, I don't know, some two or three of our frigates to assist in the present
emergency, can anyone tell me what makes up an American aircraft-carrier battle fleet ? please?

Not sure about the american ones but the british ones consisted of an aircraft carrier, a cruiser and one or more destroyers. The idea is that the other ships protect the carrier from surface attack or submarine attack while its doing its thing. Though given the size of the yankie carriers and the shallowness of the gulf, if you sank one itd just settle a couple of feet till it sat on the bottom.
