My husband and I have been apart for 11 years and have decided its time to divorce. I have made a few enquiries and it seems it will cost up to about £2,000. Everything was divided up when we separated and our kids are all grown up so there are no problems apart from the fact that he now resides in Croatia and wants me to organise everything. I have heard it is possible to do this without a solicitor and wonder if anyone has any knowledge of this. I have also seen an advert online advertising cheap divorce, but am a bit wary. Any advice would be really appreciated. Thank you.

you can do it all yourselves if you're reasonable at form filling. I did mine a few years ago and it cost about £400. you can't do it cheaper because that's the basic court costs.
You can print all the necessary forms from the internet. You have to make a copy to send to your husband and he has to complete and send back to you. You have to pay the court fees - you can't get away from that - but you do not have to pay a solicitor.
I think my divorce cost me about £40 for court fees, just go to the local courts and pick up the forms.
Costs to file a divorce petition

You’ll need to pay a fee to start a divorce.

The fee is currently £340. But if you’re on specific benefits or have a low income, you may be able to get a discount.

That's even more simple RATTER. Great stuff - especially when you think of how much solicitors charge. And you know you are getting the right stuff from the courts. I'm sure they would probably advise you what has to be done too.
