A Level results

I took my O Levels back in 1979 and then went onto to do an OND and HND at Polytechnic in IT and then into work.
Never looked back.

My nephew has just got 2 * E Grade , 1 * D grade and a B Grade.
My wife says her sister says this is a pass.

In my days getting anything below a C was a fail.
Have things changed ?

Well I was on the right lines, don't believe they can be matched anyway. All require different skills.

Ummmm:
I started my teacher training in 1971, before it was an 'all-graduate' career. The system was that the second and third years of study at Sheffield City College of Education counted as the first two years of a degree course at Sheffield University. Those who did well enough during the 3-year teeacher training course were then able to go onto a 4th year of study (which counted as the third year of their degree course). As I got a Distinction in Mathematics at the end of the three years, I then went on to study 'Mathematics as a Double Subject' for my degree course.

So the decision as to a student's suitability for a degree course was effectively delayed until they'd completed their teacher-training, rather than being based upon their A-level results.

I know my 'O' level grades from 1964 and I didn't bribe anyone............

lol I got a grade 1 in English Language, and I don't er remember the others.

5 O levels - 4 Grade c and a grade B
OND Computer Studies - Distinction
HND Computer Studies - Credit

Then into IT industry since 1983.

C.v time is it, Sir A V? OK, here goes:

10 O-levels (Mixed grades. Details rather vague in my mind)

3 A-levels (Grades above)

Certificate In Education. (Maths Distinction. Principles of Education Commendation. Physics Pass)

Honours Degree (Only a 3rd but there were only two of us on the course and the other guy dropped out half way through. It was a long, lonely haul to get my degree, with nobody to discuss any problems with)

City & Guilds Certificate in Media Techniques (Print and Radio Competences) - Distinction

CSEand GCE O level got replaced by GCSE in 1988 in order to massage the figures of who was passing what. Thatcher needed her lackies to prove that comp were cr@p, so amalgamating all the exams into one 'average' met the need.
E D and B at A level are passes at A -level and getting an A-level is wholly different to any qual preceding.
I believe you are confusing this with the fact that in our day a CSE grade 1 was equivalent to a GCE O-level grade C. Love your dear nephew, support him and help him in th bugry awful economic times ahead. We had it oh so easy in comparison.

We had it easy ....Huh ....
I had to work part time in a garage from the age of 16 to support my education. Night shifts as well.
Oh yes how illegal was that , a 16 year old on their own running a Self service shell petrol station , doing 2 night shifts a week.
!979 it was ...when I look back now , what the hell was the owner thinking of.
It was mainly cash in those days and I would take £2,500 in a shift (8 hours).

GCSE results have not arrived yet. It is the A levels that all the fuss is about because these are the ones which say you can go to a University or you can't.

When I were a lad my father used to wake me up before I went to bed and give the belt so I'd warm up. Then the council gave us a cardboard box in the middle of the road - luxury.

7 O Levels (No grades shown on my Certificates!) (1963)
an OND in Business Studies (equivalent to 2 A levels apparently) (1965)
RSA Statistics Level 3 (1965)
Various RSA qualifications
and a Level 3 NVQ in Customer Services in 2003!!!!

All certificates, etc. now going in the bin. No need for them anymore!!
