Deleting Video Files

I have quite a few videos on my computer (.mov files) I don't need - stuff I took on my camera but have uploaded what I want to Youtube and am trying to free up some much needed space.

It won't let me delete them though, says they it cannot delete them (individually or collectively) as it's being used by another program/person and to close anything that might be using them and to try again.

I don't have anything open to use them or any video, haven't even played some of them and don't understand why they won't delete.

Can anyone suggest anything I can do to get them deleted?

restart the computer and try again straight away.

If that doesn't work restart in safe mode and then delete them.
