Why when he says these things , are they called 'gaffes', it's just humour isn't it? If they were said by a stand-up comic (he would be excellent) they would just be seen as fun, the press can't accept that he is a very witty guy. I hope if I make 90, I have still got a similar sense of humour. Happy Birthday says I.

If he was put up for auction by public subscription, - Sotherbys m'dear, not ebay! - many countries would raise millions to have him for their own, having nothing else but lacklustre public figures, think of poor Belgium whose only star is van Rumpoy. Chuck, why are you such a sourpuss this morning?
I've only just realised ummm's avatar is the DoE - I thought it was Roald Dahl.
lol....
But you said it was, about 6 posts up?
It does look like him - the nose!
I didn't say it was, I said I was still laughing. I pointed out the resemblence to the Dof E to ummm on another thread.
I think it's fair to say that sometimes he's side-splittingly funny and other times he crosses the line and becomes offensive. You cannot judge a person to be good or bad based on isolated comments.
:-)
I`m sure the D of E would get along fine with the A Of G ;)
The slitty eyed comment was made off the record to students, and it was reported on by someone high up, and reported in the Times. I am sure that's what Prince Phiilip said in last night programme. Perhaps thats why he has a love/ hate relationship with the press.
