For the third time in 4 months I've had a blood vessel 'break' or whatever you say in my eye. it's the same eye. It clears up after a few days but what's the cause? It usually happens when I'm stressed up so could this be the case and how does this affect the eye?

Subconjunctival hemorrhage - mostly just happen due to mild trauma, a weaker blood vessel disrupted with coughing or rubbing the eye and sometimes (but less often) associated with raised blood pressure. See your gp for a work up if persistent concerns. Good Luck.
I agree with york.........looks awful, but no big deal.
It is also promoted by smoking.

Thanks, so not really stress related then? unless my blood pressure is higher when I'm stressed. Don't smoke so not that beso.
My boyfriend used to suffer this quite a lot. For no apparent reason one eye would just go bright red for a few days. There was never a common factor, it just happened. He had several visits to specialist who all just gave blank expressions and shrugged their shoulders. Until the last one he saw diagnosed it as a form of arthritis in his eye. He gave him some drops that made him go blind for the day but that was only a short term solution, there is nothing that can be done long term.

Crikey milly, arthritis in the eye! My whole eye doesn't go red just the outside, it's like a couple of a blob of blood which such seems to slowly clear up.
Mr mac gets them regularly, I think because he takes a daily aspirin to keep his blood thin.
