Thanks all - I have had cramp in my feet before & usually walk into the kitchen & stand on the cold floor for a while, but this time it was in my calves & was really, really painful. I didn't know what to do, apart from yelp until it stopped!
If it happens for much longer, I'll take a trip to the doc's, ta.
When we were working in hot climes we used to take salt tablets as low sodium levels can cause cramp (especially the calves) Also low potassium, eat lots of bananas smudge. If you've been sweating a lot and also cutting down on your salt intake that could do it
There is still quinine in tonic water. Read the list of contents to make sure. This happened to me a couple of years ago and I asked the pharmacist in Boots for advice. She suggested a glass of tonic water each night, (gin optional!) and it worked brilliantly within a few days. I now probably drink it a couple of times a week and have no problems.
Thank you all again for your very helpful answers.
Funnily enuff, even tho' it's been quite cold, I have been sweating a bit (not smelly), but put it down to not being at all well over the w/end,
I shall have a tipple of tonic water tonight (minus the gin, lol) & hope for less or no cramps. I also love bananas, so will partake tomorrow! Many thanks.
Hi BOO - always nice to see your name on here. You really did make me laugh on the 'stiff legs' thread. Love ya little quips! ♥
I get it in my calf when I wake sometimes, worst pain I've ever had, and so hard to straighten leg as you feel you're going to rip your muscle in two. I tend to get it when I have been drinking.
Thank you Booldawg & 4get - have just got back from the doc's & he's sending me for further blood tests for: Anemia, diabetes, iron levels, thyroid & because I've been getting severe pain in my big toe - he's requested one for gout, altho' he said my feet look healthy!
