Cramp In Legs

I've been having cramp in my legs, for the past few nights. I don't get it in the day, just when I go to bed. Sometimes it develops into full-blown cramp and I have to bolt out of bed and walk around in pain, but the majority of the time it's just this weird 'crampy feeling, like the feeling you get just before the cramp kicks in the spasm sets in.

What would cause this?

Thanks.

I don't know what causes it, but keep a can of tonic water next to you. It contains quinine and drinking it really alleviates the pain.

Does that count for gin and tonic too? :P

Thanks for the tip. I will be sure to take your advice.
Mrs stewey gets these excruciating pains and a few swallows of tonic water gets rid of them.
could be footwear, changing from heels to flats or sandals that toes grip on soles ?
I use calmagzinc tablets from healthfood stores or chemists.
Tonic water is the job.
I find that heat doesn't help so in addition to painkillers I have before bed anyway I rub on some pain cream or gel and make sure my legs and feet are really nice and cool (I always have a variety of sheets, humidifier on timer and window open anyway). I've got a spray from Boots for my legs and one of those cold sprays from the pound shop and usually pop a quick spray on each of my wrists to help cool my body down.

I sleep on my back whenever possible with a big pillow either under my feet or knees.

When I get an actual cramp I try to let the cramp do its thing and not fight it and tense up and push the cramp out, I try and relax and when it calms down try to gently exercise whatever is cramped up out.
My sister also gets this. She had been given tablets (Ropinerol?) usually for Parkinsons. But if she misses one, it starts earlier, or is worse than it used to be and I'm worried they're just increasing the dose all the time. Have texted her now to try Tonic Water and she says she will. So, thanks.
I get cramp when I'm dehydrated and when I haven't had much salt in my diet.
When I started taking Statins I got really bad cramp in my lower legs. I don't know if there was a connection.
Agree with Eccles - same for me

Ta very muchly.

I suppose I do have a lack of salt in my diet, but then I assumed that was a good thing? :-/
