has anyone had any dealings with the company 'hidden hearing' please?

if so, was just wondering what your views on them are..

after a home visit today, my aunty is concidering buying from them.

(a pair of aids cost from £4,000 up to £8,000, so theyre not cheap!)

I agree with Buenchico.

Don´t buy them

Go back to the Hearing Aid dept of your ENT dept and get your aids checked by an Audiologist....the whistling can easily be dealt with.

Agree with all above who recommend NHS; waiting-time depends on where you live- I got one aid within three weeks of my appointment and OH got two within 2-3 weeks. All three are excellent - no troubles at all. Why, on Earth, pay a fortune ?

I have been giving further thoughts to your auntie´s problem over my breakfast.

I assume that she has had a hearing test (audiogram) and I assume that her hearing loss is in the high tones, the low tones being acceptable.
An NHS aid will amplify ALL sounds, high and low as explained by Buenchico and with an NHS aid, you will never hear normally and you must accept that fact.

Now go back to the Audiology Dept and ask then to check the mould in your ear and also the fitting.....ask them if they will make a mould for the opposite ear and try the aid in that ear.

If all this fails, then go to Boots and ask them if you can have a free trial of their private hearing aids, which are more cheaper than "Hidden Hearing"

I'm not sure about this but I think Specsavers have also got a section for hearing aids. I'm sure it will not cost that amount. It is ridiculous.

I remember my mum looking at them and sure hers cost about £2k, I have a horrible feeling each. We have both had hearing tests via Specsavers - they do free ones and for me it was quicker and easier than going back via my Dr and came back as borderline hearing assistance so hanging on as long as I can before going back as I cope ok.

I know mum has had them with Specsavers as well (we both have menieres disease) but have a feeling she might have got her hearing aids from Boots. Will ask her when I next speak to her. I was gobsmacked when I found out how expensive they were.

They are digital ones and she previously had gromits I think from the NHS. Don't think she wears them very much though.

I think I'd definitely go NHS first as it's likely I will need some in the future. Unless there was something amazing about non-NHS ones I wouldn't have the money to spend that much on them and can't see how much of a difference they would make to make it worth spending that much money.

jenna....big difference here.

Menieres Disease has a LOW tone loss..............not high tone, so would be better suited to a NHS hearing aid.

Our lady has almost certainly a HIGH tone loss....different "ball game" entirely.

Hi looby ... my Mother has had a couple over the years, and recently we've found Specsavers to be the best :)

jenna: My digital NHS aid has a volume control and they are given to Menieres patients because the low-frequency hearing-loss can fluctuate- sometimes improving, sometimes getting worse. Aids given for other types of hearing-loss (usually just getting gradually worse) are pre-programmed for gain and cannot have the volume turned up by the patient. This was the info I was given by my aid dispenser at the audiology dept.

My NHS digitals are brilliant and were provided 4 weeks after diagnosis. Replacement batteries are free as is routine repair etc. They are not very obtrusive.
