Record it as we had to nip out earlier, and we've just watching them sing the song that I've always thought should be the British National Anthem, the one we've got just means nothing to me, but every time I hear Land of Hope and Glory it brings a lump to my throat, is it just me? or does any body else feel the same?

All of the last night of the Proms does that for me, I do find our national anthem dreary, but the rendition tonight was very beautifully done. Rule Britannia!
Although I think of myself as Britsh, I have to say that our Welsh national anthem brings a lump to my throat and gives me goosebumps especially when sung by a male voice choir. Flower of Scotland probably has the same effect on Scottish people; they're very patriotic songs. I do think however that Land of Hope and Glory would make an excellent BRITISH anthem.
yes even being scottish i still think that land of hope and glory should be all of our national anthem have you listened to o flower of scotlandits rubbish
Ah, now I'm English and since I've been married to the Scots, I've come to love Flower of Scotland... but my dad was Welsh so I like that too.
I agree Land of Hope and Glory is much more stirring.

In my own opinion Land of My Fathers, Flower of Scotland and Jerusalem should be the three anthem of the three countries of Great Britain but I always think that theres never been a Great England, or Scotland or Wales but what ever your beliefs regarding devalution the three countries together make something pretty special and Land of Hope and Glory covers everything and would make a fitting anthem to cover tall the U.K
I'll vote for that, paddywak!
Great show very patriotic even though I am Northern Irish! Pity we didn't we have something like that to rouse us, we do have Danny Boy!
Jerusalem is a good choice paddywak, one of my favourites
I like Jerusalem too, but I think it only pertains to England. I'm going with paddywak for Land of Hope and Glory as a British anthem.
Not sure I really understand the point of the words in Jerusalem. Perhaps someone could enlighten me?

I 'm not sure were I saw it,but a few months ago I read that in future at athletics events such as the Commonwealth Games were athletes represent their country not Team GB, the National Anthem would not be played for the different winners instead they would play the anthem of the winners country, only using the National Athem at events such as the Olympics, any way I'm off to bed now but it's nice to know I'm not alone in my feelings on the subjesct
I love last night at the proms Land of Hope & Glory does it for me every time. How long before someone decides this insitution of the Proms offends? It is one of the few things left

No doubt that there are some people who find it offensive but some small minded people will find offense in anything especially it provides a way for ordinary people from all over the world getting together to enjoy themselves
I was at one of the local versions in Salford, was very rousing, especially with the fireworks. Found a video...
