if i take my car in early for mot, if it fails, will the old certificate still be valid for me to drive on?

i am due to start work around the date its due up and should it fail i wont have any time to sort it out plus i need the car for work

so if i take it in a month early - just in case i need time to fix something, will the new cert just carry on from the end of the other? - or will it mean i lose a month and will need to do next years mot a month earlier too

thanks

yes the certificate would still be valid.
But youd only avoid any charge of not having an MOT certificate, you could still be prosecuted for driving and unroadworthy vehicle if you were stopped
What happens if my vehicle fails its MOT?
If a vehicle fails it’s MOT then the owner is given a failure document and the vehicle will not be permitted to be driven on any UK roads with the exception of being driven to be repaired.
"the vehicle will not be permitted to be driven on any UK roads with the exception of being driven to be repaired" - not true, Toureman.
If it fails, you are driving an unworthy road vehicle, which is indeed an offence.
If you correct the fault (replace the failed tyre, say) the old MOT allows the vehicle to continue to be driven up until the date of the old MOT expiry.
Which is basically what Red said.
I stand corrected mate, your right !
