I had a chum ( not on this site) who I'd been chatting to for about 3 years. We both had geriatric dogs which were our main topic of conversation.
I knew she had cancer but she didn't dwell on it, she was more concerned about her dog.
To get to the point she has died (she was only 41).
I just feel gutted about someone I'd never met, didn't have an address or phone number for, not even an e-mail address yet I feel I knew her so well and have lost a good friend.

That is a real shame. You had a real friend you had much in common with and no doubt shared confidences.
Perhaps you could post a 'thank you for your friendship' or 'miss you' thread on that site.
It is a strange thing, but our human instinct is to share our grief.
The internet has made the world a much smaller place - it is good that you found this friendship.

What is good is that you know that she is dead - it's the people who seem to just vanish that gets me, you don't know the person's full details so you are not able to discover what happened to them.
how about the dog
If she was your pixel mate miss meg I bet you were hers too. Every living thing has its finite life my dear, but 41 is all too young. We should try and concentrate on the good times we have had with those who are no longer around. ♥
You have every right to feel the loss of your online friend. Sometimes we are touched by people we've never even met.

hc thanks for the reply. I posted a RIP mesage as soon as I realised what had happened.
Wolf, know what you mean, you can make friends on the internet, then they disappear, for what reason you're not quite sure.
Your friend has touched your heart, and no doubt your friendship was equally important.
Take comfort in the fact she had a good friend, albeit online, in the last months.
Allow yourself to grieve.

Petal, I am saddened that I will no longer get updates on the dog, Stash she was called. Buzz saw her being held out of the top window of a double decker bus 14 years ago and gave the yobs a fiver to take her from them.
May I ask how you got to hear of her death? Can you not go back to the same source to enquire of her dog?

King. com ttfn don't think anyone else there was aware of our doggie conversations.
how awful sorry about the loss of your friend missmeg
Try 'Googling' her full name and see if there has been any obituary written.
I am sorry for your loss, I lost an internet friend a while ago. He died with his wife in a car crash, I shed tears even though I had never met him. Even if you have never met them it is like losing a close friend.
I am in uk and met this friend in the uk. through playing dominoes. I knew from the start he was very ill and over the 4 years we chatted he got worse. He sent me pics of his place ect. But I dont know if anything has happened or if he is in hospital.I do have his address as we sent xmas and birthday cards and he was a genuine friend. I am going to write and see if I get a reply.Yes it is a small world and you are lucky when you do meet a genuine person. I have chatted to a lady in Australia for same time feels as if I have known her all my life but I dont think we will meet but one never knows.
