EU've gotta be joking! (yolking possibly, if you are really stuck for a pun).

I'm sorry but it really winds me up just thinking about how this attack on the Great British culture will be reported in the tabloid press. Don't Fritz and and those other fools on the EU gravy train realise that stories like these are like Christmas come early (or a football match against the Germans) to our brave copywriters? If they are going to bring in barmy legislation regarding foodstuffs then they should surely pick on something with less obvious puns than eggs. What do you think?

I get my eggs in trays, not sre how many that is, when they are used up i get another. We get them from the farm fresh layed, supermarket eggs can be 2 weeks old, here's a tip, always keep eggs in the frigde and only break them into hot water/cooking oil as the heat shock kills any bugs, also, only use fresh eggs for baking.

I ahev no idea what the EU directive is but it is probably just giving someone a well paid job in another country.

The secret is to look for the words 6 large, 6 medium or 6 small on the boxes

You'll know next time now won't you?
No. I am quite capable of seeing whether there are six eggs and their size by looking at them. I don't need to have it wriiten down.
15 eggs on a tray???

....but I've only got 10 fingers
Joe would have to take his socks off to check them.

Eggs by weight? //

OK, under the proposed new labelling scheme and you are presented with two boxes of eggs in the Supermarket. The boxes clearly contain 6 eggs each, but one says they weigh 50grams and the other says it weighs 75grams. You really like eggs so which are you going to choose?

Under the present system, both boxes say they contain 6 eggs, but one of them contains 50% more than the other. Yet you are guess which.
They should sell eggs in 14's. That would be a weekly supply in one box.
I remember going to the shop for my grandmother to buy 2 eggs!

Such eggs are usually defined by categories of small, medium and large.....it ain't rocket science you know

There's way too much EU meddling in areas where it ain't needed, the banning of pounds and ounces in favour of kilos was another example of this.....how many people still ask for things in pounds and ounces? I know I do

If it ain't broken don't fix it
yawn, another great euromyth spread by the easily fooled

A victory for common sense, yes by all means add the weight of the eggs to the box but there really is no need to get rid of the number on the box

On the large boxes of eggs not everyone would instantly know how many eggs were in that box anyway

Are there 12, 15 or 18 eggs in this box? Hang on a minute while I turn the box upside down and count them
from my link:

"She said: ‘Labels will still be able to indicate the number of food items in a pack, whether eggs, bread rolls or fish fingers.’

But, under proposed new rules, produce traditionally packaged and sold by number would also have to be labelled by weight."

"Also" - not "instead of".

So - everybody's happy, except the people desperate to believe the European superstate is destroying their culture.

Please look at the links above. They show a random selection of egg boxes and non of them have the quantity printed on the packaging. It would appear that it is neither compulsory to print the quantity on the lid and that many existing producers do not do so.

You would have to be incredibly dim not to know how many eggs the boxes contain.
and ultimately the problem with having the actual number of eggs printed on the box is........?

Exactly
