EU've gotta be joking! (yolking possibly, if you are really stuck for a pun).

I'm sorry but it really winds me up just thinking about how this attack on the Great British culture will be reported in the tabloid press. Don't Fritz and and those other fools on the EU gravy train realise that stories like these are like Christmas come early (or a football match against the Germans) to our brave copywriters? If they are going to bring in barmy legislation regarding foodstuffs then they should surely pick on something with less obvious puns than eggs. What do you think?

Is the word "bare" included in the pun ?
This country is a thorn in the side of the eu, and they will not stop until they have destroyed us and whats left of our cultural heritage and forced us into the european superstate that they still continue to deny as their ultimate aim
Yet another EU waste of time and money - maybe under Austerity Cuts remove All expenditure on Eurocrats ?
I don't understand the big deal about eggs being sold in twelves. What's the problem with them being sold in tens?
Just buy 2 boxes. Seemples
Eggsactly. I don't care less if they are sold in sixes, twelves, tens or singles.
This measure will only affect people who are unable to count past twelve. And it appears to be people who cannot read who are upset by it.

They are not saying you cannot sell 6 eggs or a dozen. They can sell in whatever quantity they want. It is just that the box should not have the number 6 (or 12) on it.

Now, if you are really really dim, and you cannot work out how many eggs are in this box...

.. without having to refer to the number 6 on the box, then this regulation might just cause you problems. But virtually everyone who buys eggs can count up to 6.
Frog restaurants will have to stop serving escargots by the dozen.
McMouse

No they won't.

This is about labelling. The Label must not say 12, but they can sell 12.
Exactly what is wrong with having the number of eggs printed on the box?
// Exactly what is wrong with having the number of eggs printed on the box? //

It spoils the surprise when you open the box and you find that there are... ...6!

When you can plainly see by the packaging that there are 6 eggs in the box, it is pointless. it is more useful to know the weight.

Eggs by weight?

Since when did cake recipes start calling for 93.74 grammes of egg???
Only an idiot would need telling how many eggs are in a box. They are not banning shops from selling 12 eggs, just printing the number on a box.

Would you expect that every item you buy has a number on it? Cake = 1, cornflakes = 1000?
So that goes for all packaging the does it?

There are a lot of fresh and frozen items in supermarkets which have see-through packaging (small packs of sliced meat, frozen sausages, chicken breasts, fish etc), but they still have the number of items enclosed printed on the packaging

Who the fcuk wants to count how many things are inside packaging while doing there shopping? Whats the problem with having the number of eggs printed on the box? Who exactly is it hurting/offending

It's just a number
^ their
From looking at a box of eggs, it's obvious how many are in it. It isn't so obvious on things like a pack of sausages, as they are more closely packed.

If you can't work out how many eggs are in a box, you shouldn't be shopping without your carer.
This is about labelling the eggs by weight not the number in the box

The actual legislation:

1. The net quantity of a food shall be expressed, using litres, centilitres, millilitres, kilograms or grams, as appropriate:

(a) in units of liquid in the case of liquids within the meaning of Council Directive 85/339/EEC of 27 June 1985 on containers of liquids for human consumption ;

(b) in units of mass in the case of other products.

"if the new rules do come in, an egg producer who wished to comply with them at zero cost could just add ‘weight 385g’ to all their boxes of large eggs, and otherwise carry on as before." http://liberalconspir...-they-did-make-it-up/

As for the puns: I think they'll be eggcellent, I am very eggcited. I would call an end to all this nonsense though - by declaring, in the spirit of the French revolution, "an Oeuf is an Oeuf!"

Spare Egg
Nah Ed, as long as there are six eggs in a pack, people like joeluke don't care if they are the size of cuckoo's eggs, as long as there is a big 6 for him to see.
My carer says she's going to bring her calculator with her next time we go shopping

Don't forget your medication
At Iceland they sell them in 15s.
