Who and what was to blame for Englands poor showing in the World Cup Finals ?
Some suggested “Pick and Mix” reasons below :-

Friction and factions within the Squad
Friction between players and manager - manager lost dressing room
Friction between players and players

John Terry affair and fall out with Wayne Bridge who opted out of world cup
John Terrys loss of captaincy and loss of form into the world cup - destroyed team spirit
John Terry “mutiny” press conference harmed team spirit

Players are just not as good internationally as we believed
Players are propped up by genuine world class foreign stars and cant hack it without these for England
Players lack of technical ability - control, passing, holding off tackles, marking, finding space
Players lack of discipline on field and hold teams shape particularly in defence - “headless chickens”
Players general unfitness of players - age of team - lack of energy
Players lack of pride and passion
Players complacent and overpaid with bloated egos
Players unable to motivate themselves
Players tiredness (according to Capello)
Rob Greens fumbled Goal vs USA

Managers wrong team formation 4.4.2 - wrong tactics
Manager didn’t pick best squad or team
Manager picked team too late before kick off
Managers repeated inclusion of out of form/unfit stars
Managers failed attack built around Rooney who did not or could not play to his club form
Managers reluctance to drop Rooney
Mangers waste of playing Heskey to provide service for out of tune Rooney
Manager failure to get Gerrard or Lampard to effectively play together
Manager failure to communicate properly and motivate players - poor command of English

some more pick and mix reasons;-

The behaviour of the new ball - plus insufficient practice with it
Lampards disallowed goal
Lack of technology due to Sepp Blatter
Not enough good luck
The FA
Good Club manager does not always make a good international manager
I think there were lots of factors, the most confusing was capello's insistance on playing an out of form rooney and preferring heskey over crouch

"the most confusing was capello's insistance on playing an out of form rooney and preferring heskey over crouch" I would have had crouch in - heskey out - and rooney on the bench for the last 2 games at least

donkey heskey never has, and never will be a goalscorer so why bring him on if you need goals

celebrity first, footballers second is half of the problem

Steve - good analysis - could another manager made more of our raw material ?

10ClarionSt - "We haven't had a decent team since the one that won the World Cup in 1966. We've had (still do), some fantastic players who played brilliantly for their clubs, week in, week out. But as soon as they put the England shirt on, they turn to jelly. This has been the case since we surrendered a two goal lead against West Germany in Mexico in 1970. That's where our world standing fell down and has never recovered. So all this business about tactics, harmony, injuries, the manager etc. is just a fudge. And everyone fell for all hype and over-expectation about England winning the World Cup. We aint good enough and never will be till we get some players who have the BALLS to put in a real performance instead of turning to jelly"

clarion -hope recycling your opinion makes up for not seeing your post on chatterbank
I heard on the radio today that it was all the fault of the immigrants.
They come over here and play for our teams in the premiership, they don't eat British food (like kebabs) or do British things (like drink) they don't do British traditions (like whoring on a Saturday night) why do clubs employ them?
Because they're the best for the job?
Because they're better technically?
Because they treat their bodies better?
I have to say it's not quite like that, John Terry is the one I hold largely responsible for any discord, he's a well proven d i c k h e a dwhose nose got put out of joint when he lost the captaincy, he probably feels vindicated now.
We should stick with Capello, see what he does next, get rid of the prima donnas and let the players know whose boss and that it aint them.
Our players just aren't good enough.

Scotland had good players once, at that time they had a (fairly) good national team. For the last 20 years, no investment in the grass roots of Scottish Football. Now they have a very poor national team.

The whole coaching system in England needs changing and investment made at the foundation stages of the game.

..or we will become Scotland!!

everton - “heard on the radio today that it was all the fault of the immigrants”

))))The ‘six-plus-five’ rule would signal a massive change in the game, particularly in the Premier League where recent studies revealed just 34 per cent of players were English Governing body Fifa voted for the proposals at the Fifa Congress in Sydney and President Sepp Blatter is aiming to bring them into effect in time for the 2012/2013 season He added: 'The application of such a system would start only at the end of 2010 and we would start progressively with four, five and six.' (if EU rules waived) ((((

“ John Terry is the one I hold largely responsible for any discord, he's a well proven d i c k h e a dwhose nose got put out of joint when he lost the captaincy, he probably feels vindicated now” - agree that Terry contributed to disharmony in squad

“We should stick with Capello, see what he does next, get rid of the prima donnas and let the players know whose boss and that it aint them” - Disagree on retention of Capello because he didn’t pick best squad or team. He was picked team too late before kick off - repeatedly included of out of form/unfit stars - stuck with failed attack built around Rooney who did not or could not play to his club form - did not drop Rooney - played Heskey to provide service for out of tune Rooney - failed to get Gerrard or Lampard to effectively play together - failed to motivate players, instil team spirit and get England to perform as a team - even brought Heskey on toward end of Germany game !

I did in a thread on Friday - did I not- invite you footy fans to join me , and watch the F1 ; instead of the ineveitable , England crashing out of the World Cup , and subsequent heartache ?

Question Author
"Next time listen to Bertie " did so - the F1 was on before big match - Webber so lucky to survive horrific crash and walk away relatively unscathed - Germany victory there too - Vettel over Hamilton & Button !
