Although I haven't hit 30 yet (couple of years) I did have a significant change in the last couple of years though. The doc stuck me on the pill?!

I don't believe she gave me a reason for it all.
I just read your in your late 30's - there for my answer is probably irrelevant. I guess a change can come along at any time. Some people start the menopause very early, especially if there mother did. My mother did - not looking forward to that!

it could be early menopause greedyfly just wondered if it could be anything else as well x
Late 30s does sound a little bit too early to be starting the menopause, but I suppose it's not unheard of. Would go and see your GP though, if you're getting heavy periods. Could be a sign of fibroids. Wouldn't leave it though. I just stopped having periods, never had any odd ones at all, just stopped! Go and see your GP, zzxxee
I agree with Chokkie - things like this usually happen for a reason (even if not a serious one). Best to get it checked out. Menopause is a long shot!
mine have got lighter if anything zzxxee, im 44 and are very light and only last a couple of days or so.
have a little chat with your doc, they might run a few tests :o)

its only been the last two i have had but think your right a g.p visit is in order
Agree with you zzxxee, my whole cycle got more unpleasant as I go older, including heavy bleeds (I won't draw pictures, there are blokes watching) and hormonal migraines every month. I don't want to alarm you as there may be many causes, but mine turned out to be fibroids (to the extent that my examining GP asked me if I was sure I wasn't pregnant!). Long and short was, I had a hysterectomy in 1993, yippee, have not looked back since. Not a cure that everyone will want, but until you've had miserable periods, people don't know what it's like. Go see your GP, set your mind at rest if nothing else - and yes it could be menopause, onset is different for everyone.

i have googled heavy periods and it has come up with pcos doesnt state what this stands for is it polysitic ovaries i wonder ???
hormone imbalance
Question Author
have made doc appointments for monday
polycystic ovarian syndrome

more likely fibroids or maybe one off the conditions where the lining of the uterus is overproduced or fails to shed properly. Sometimes it responds really well to hormones like the pill sometimes it needs surgery they might try something like a D and C and have a good look round while they are at it... although fibroids show up on an ultrasound scan . Worth seeing your Gp for a few blood tests hormone levels etc,, should be able to tell if it is early menopause, PCOS usually comes with an increase in body hair, and a bit of a bloated abdomen among other symptoms. Apparently other hormone imbalances can cause heavy periods too hence best to get it checked out
