I work in a factory amking a non essential food stuff which millions and millions of people take great pleasure out of consuming every day
But would they die without it? I'm guessing not. It's probably chocolate...
Very commendable did you save any of your factory mates from being mangled in a breadmaking machine perhaps or drowning in a vat of vinegar? Sorry but unless you can sing Rule Britannia while riding a unicycle I don't think you qualify.
no they wouldn't die without it .
same as they wouldn't die without say an actor or say a writer or say a singer etc.etc.
or possibly Marmite...
I don't understand how people can be knighted for services to show-business.
exactly my point boxtops unless they use their position to help other people much less fortunate then like sir bob geldof they damn well deserve one but on humaitarian grounds
I don`t think someone should get a knighthood after just a few years of "doing good" (unless they`ve made a huge impression via work for charity etc). I think it should take many years of service to whatever cause. The clothes designer Paul Smith got something a few years ago (can`t remember whether it was a knighthood or OBE) and I wondered why when he`s a businessman and is just making lots of money doing his job. Bruce Forsyth has contributed to Tv for decades and he gets nothing. He said they never knight comedians and he`s right.
Bruce Forsyth doesn't deserve one! He entertains (certain) people, he doesn't do anything remotely useful, life altering or humanitarian. Longevity isn't an automatic shoe-in to ennoblement...
Patrick Stewart doesn`t do anything useful, entertains (certain) people etc etc
It's the idea that some members of the last Government who honestly believe that they have earned a knighthood, like Prescott, who imo was totally useless, and he will take it just to appease Pauline,
