The three R's have gone because we have been overun by the pinko liberal minority who shout the loudest.

Led of course currently by McBottle and nobs like Balls
true, i also think that kids should be taught about personal finances, income/outgoing, what a loan is, what a mortgage is, what tax and ni contributions are, what apr means on a loan etc etc. skills that some parents lack, even when they are signing on the dotted line for a 2500% apr loan.
Definitely Ankou! I know very little about any financial matters but am lucky that I have parents who are very sensible with money and I can ask them for advice when I need i, I've also been left to sort out bank accounts and budget things on my own so I know how to do these things. When talking to people at uni I'm astonished at people who are living away from home and readily admit that they don't know what bank accounts they have because their parents sort it all out for them!
Frightening isn't it Sophie. I know many people like that. They can conjugate French irregular verbs but can't use a ladder.
From about the age of 14 onwards it's just got worse and worse! I used to be amazed at how many people from that age up until the end of college still had their parents make sure they got up in the morning, made them packed lunch and tidies their rooms for them. Now it's having their parents sort bank accounts, arrange for their cars to be taxed, insured etc, one girl I know phoned her mum to find out what she should do when she cut herself slightly with a knife, when are these people ever going to be independent?? I still live at home and am more independent than loads of the people at uni who lived in halls and are now renting houses!
I am at a total loss as to why so many young girls get pregnant. I was a teenager in the dark ages of the 1960's and without any help from school we all had a pretty damned good idea of how you got pregnant, and what to do to try and avoid it, and this was before the pill was freely available.
I only ever knew one girl who got pregnant at the age of 13.....it wasn't that some others didn't do it, they all took precautions, as who the hell wanted to face their parents, and have a life as a single parent.
It's nothing to do with education and all to do with attitude.....
having a kid today at a very young age, does not carry quite the same social stigma it did in the 60s.
I know that Ankou.......that's why I said it was attitude not education.. :-)
but then you could say the say the same about homosexuality.
i really can't understand parents that spoil their children like that so they have no idea how to live as an independent adult.
One of my staff just asked to leave early as her son was having a crisis. he has to attend a course today as he was caught speeding and he can't find his driving licence.
He's 30, lives with his partner and child and still has to ring his mum to help! And she actually took time off work to do it!
but we're not discussing homosexuality..............
"Hey, Mom, Good News! I just passed my GCSE Parenting and got an A* for getting pregnant........"
no, but you were discussing attitude and the 60s

merely knowing more details about something does not necessarily encourage people to do it.

how on earth can informing a 14 year old about the ins an outs of parenting encourage them to have sex?

they do it whatever, so better that they know what they are doing than making ignorant mistakes...i mean we all have heard stories that you can get pregnant first time, or standing up havent we...its this sort of ignorance that makes teen beleive having a kid will be like having a tiny tears doll!
