The last big one 20+ years ago was called Live Aid. This one is not meant to raise Aid, but appeal to the members of the G8 to do something about global poverty.

i agree with the above answer, Live is because it is Live and 8 stands for the richest 8 countries also known as the G8 who are currently deciding on economics and the third world.

1. It works hand in hand with G8, G8 and live 8 makes sense.
2. There was 8 Concerts held all over the globe, another reason for the number 8.
