Last week seven blue bin pets, four pink bin pets, three green bin pets, a yellow bin pet and five orange bin pets escaped from the pet store. On each of the two following days, half of the loose pets were recaptured.
How many bin pets were still free at the end of the second day?
A: 4 bin pets
B: 5 bin pets
C: 6 bin pets
D: 7 bin pets
Would the Answer be B: 5 Bin Pets? Thanks in advance
There were originally 7+4+3+1+5=20 pets loose
On the first day half(10) were captured leaving 10 pets.
On the second day, half again(5) were captured leaving 5 pets still loose.
I must thank you all, my son must be wondering if I ever went to school..lol. I hang my head in Shame, not knowing any of the answers to these questions to a children's competition. thanks again for all your help
I'm not sure why the question includes all that detail about the colours of the bins. It's also not my idea of a BrainTeaser, but if it's for kids I suppose it's okay- no worse than those GMTV comps.
I usually agree with another-view but I don't see what's wrong with Mollykins' comment that zero could have been an answer- sometimes you have to allow for the fact that questioners accidentally word things ambiguously.
Hello Another-view- I know the colours are irrelevant: that's why I asked why the question included the info.
And zero could have been an answer if the questioner meant half (10) on the first day and the other half (10 from the original 20).
Anyway, we all agree the answer is 5.
