I'm browsing through recipes, and a lot have black pepper in them. One of my guests REALLY doesn't like black pepper so I steer away from recipes containing it, but could I substitute it with something suitable else. Obviously it would give a different taste but I don't want to make it taste really weird.
...but that's difficult if you're making a casserole or some other recipes. I have done that with individual tartets but it's not so easy with other food. I was wondering if could use another spice in place of black pepper - for instance would white pepper be as tasty.Thank you anyway.
You could make a casserole unseasoned with pepper then near to the end of cooking time spoon a portion into another ovenproof dish, season the rest and return both lots to the oven for the last 30 mins or so.
Hi angiealf, I wondered that myself but she says she can taste it, and I would HATE to think that she couldn't and put it in and spoil the meal for her. I only see them once a year so it's not THAT much hassle, but I do know what you mean.
I think that when we really don't like a particular taste it's easier to spot, however well disguised. My oldest son hated white pepper & I tested him by omitting/adding a tiny amount to something...he knew which one the pepper was in straight away!
I'd do what mortatube suggested.
