Every time i turn off my Dell PC it comes up with update 1 off 1
I let this run through and switch off.

Next time exactly the same.

Any ideas or help would be appreciated

Not sure what you mean by that - do you mean that it switches itself off, or that you switch it off?

if the update completes the machine will switch itself off. If you are switching it off, it almost certainly isn't completing.

I let the PC carry out the update and turn itself off.

I am not manually turning PC off
This is an SQL update that cannot be done. I have had the same thing for weeks.

I don't know how to get rid of it sorry, but my computer appears un affected.
I also had this annoy me for several weeks because I had downloaded an update that just would not install. If you select the Express Install (recommended) you will keep getting reminders. If you select the advanced install, you can tick a box that stops it happening again. I'm sorry but I cant remember the exact text in the dialogue, but I sure am glad its gone away now. Hope this helps.
