Does anyone know who said "If you are wrong about sin, you are wrong about everything". That is one heck of a statement - think about it.

Right, I have now thought about it for -er - exactly 5.3seconds.
What does it mean?
pascal's wager alert! pascal's wager alert!

warning: incoming pascal's wager

take precautions immediately - locate the religion with the harshest punishment for non-compliance and immediate throw your lot in with them.

That's the problem, Naomi, I remember reading this a long time ago and it stuck in my mind, but I can't remember who wrote it and I'd like to find out as I'd like to see what context it was written in.
Ah, right. Seems we have a mystery on our hands that calls for some serious googling. then I'll give it a go - and hopefully others will too. I'd also like to know what context it was written in. The plot thickens!!
Alright, let's stop taking the mickey and try to take it seriously:

The first problem is that sin is purely a religious concept and therefore doesn't exist for an atheist like me. To my mind things are wrong (roughly speaking) if they
(a) breach the laws of the land
(b) breach my own code of morals and ethics, which I don't suppose is much different from that of any other half-decent person.

What is and is not a sin depends on what religion you subscribe to.
To a Roman Catholic using a contraceptive is sinful, as is giving blood to a dying child to a Jehovah's Witness. To a Jew it is a sin to do any work at all on the Sabbath, even switching on an electric light. And so on.

So you can no more be 'wrong' about sin that you can be wrong about the rules of a club without specifying which club.

I can't trace the author, but if I were him/her I'd also keep a low profile!
I think we can be wrong about sin, Chakka - but only if we believe in any aspect of the concept. ;o)
This applies equally to the religious as to the secular.

Ifyou are religious and are wrong about sin you are wrong about everything.

Moreover I would suggest if you're wrong about the soul you're wong about everything!

(I can't find anything approaching the quote on the web either)
I think this comes from a film, but I'm jiggered if I can find anything.
Exactly Jake. It could apply to both, which is why I'd like to know in which context it was written.

I disagree with you on the soul though.
put it into the imdb and this is list of response. Just in case they jog anyones memories?
