Does it really matter what happens in life, when, no matter what we all end up in the same predicament, dead?

I feel for those who live a life of suffering and die never experiencing comfort/satisfaction/painless/peace.

If u are able to ease someone else with your abilities - even if its just to assist someone cross the road - you should feel responsible enuf to do that.

If you don't use it - you lose it! Life is fragile.
You are asking is there a meaning of life? A purpose to existence? The age-old question. And if so, what is it? Personally I think there is, but no-one can provide an answer that will satisfy everybody else. People have argued about it since we came down from the trees.
Agree with Jock. You know, we're here and so it makes sense to do the best with it that we can.

As Emily Dickinson said, "That it will never come again is what makes life sweet."
Surely it is better to live a good, happy productive life.....rather than squander whatever time we may have?.We should be able to get to the end.....knowing that we lived life to the full, that no one was hurt by our actions,...and that we enriched the lives of at least some of those we met along the way.
I take it you haven't got kids then?
Well put pasta. Nice one. : )
many religions say it matters because this life is but a shadow of the afterlife, and how well we live this time around decides how well we'll do next time: live a bad life and you'll go to hell, or come back as a beetroot or something.

Atheists would say there is no afterllife, and this is the only one you've got - so what you do now is the only thing that matters.

They're agreed, then.
jno........what poppycock. You don't get another chance at life and how you lived your life is in the memory of others.

No second chances or re-incarnations. Have you seen anything reborn? Not even a harmless butterfly! You live through your proginy at your demise.
terambulan: whether you're right or wrong I think the basis of your opinions are flawed.

How would we know if something we've seen is reborn? And whether there is such a thing as reincarnation is a matter of opinion, not fact.
poppycock or not, I've described what many religious people believe. Tell them they're idiots if you wish, but don't be surprised if they invite you to show your evidence.
That's like asking "When I go on holiday, does it matter whether I have a good time or not, because I'll be going home in the end, anyway?"
