I have been caught over the limit while driving I am due to go to court in a week and as I work for a bank with a conviction my contract will be terminated. Can anyone offer me some advice on finding work I went to register with another agency and clearly as I will be receiving a conviction next week she did not want to help me. I am worried that for the next 5 to 7 years I am going to struggle to find work. I know I was in the wrong and need to be punished but this is my first ever conviction at 25 and I feel like my life is now over.

I cannot believe you are going to lose your job at the bank. Why? Bankers are the biggest bunch of crooks on the planet, anyway. Surely the small matter of a DD conviction shouldn't make the slightest difference.
lesblue......bankers are not the biggest bunch of crooks on the planet,my fiance works for a bank and he is the most honest and trustworthy man you could ever meet.
does seem harsh for a motoring conviction unless you need your license to work
Drink driving is a serious thing and not a menial issue.
You are right you are very very wrong and at 25 thank god it is your first and hopefully last conviction.
You will struggle to find work with companies who need CRB checks as these show criminal convictions. You will need to be close to home unless public transport is readily available where you live.
An awful lot of job application forms ask for details of criminal records and you are going to struggle.
However, I would check your contract about instant dismissal for cpnviction - I used to work in bank and never heard of this before unless for stealing, fraud, etc.
Most banks will not employ anyone with a criminal record or bad credit history chas2008.
well really who can blame them - there are few jobs about these days and employers can pick the best of the best for jobs - they dont need to consider any one less than spot on. You know I really boil about drink driving - when will people learn? It's not rocket science is it. The sooner it is zero tolerance the better.
daffy.......the comment was supposed to be tongue-in-cheek. My missus works at a bank, too. Sorry if I upset you.
Your appear to be an agency worker which makes it more difficult to hide. If your are agency the bank will have no reason to be loyaltyto you. However I worked for a major bank for over 30 years and never heard of anyone being sacked for a criminal conviction, even if it is in the contract of employment. It is there as an option. In fact, they offer a support serrvice for drug and alcohol dependency and probably any other addiction like gambling. They dont want such people controlling other peoples money. The City is nortorious for drugs and alcohol. It may be in the current climate they will look for any excuse to sack someone but I would first look at your contract. Then go to your HR and throw yourself at their mercy! I hope this is a lesson to you. Its also .a good idea to belong to a union if there is one. If you are full time employed you could neglect to tell them. The court will have no reason to inform your employer.
No, the court most certainly will not have such an obligation.

However, Charlie's contract of employment will almost certainly contain a clause that insists that the employer should be informed in the event of any convictions.
it is, send me your address and i will send you some rope

Thanks for all the advice I am a temp the agency have assured me this has cost me my job but I am sure I will plod along to find another. When you tell someone you were caught for DD why do the assume you must have been ****** it doesn't take much to be over the limit. The last comment from Helpmetoo I take it that you were asking for my email address wanted to find out what you were going to send me first. Lastly if anyone knows an agency that have helped cases like me would you please let me know I am based in London and use the tube everyday.

Thanks :-)
