went to the docs with a swollen finger joint - it looks as though there are bumps under  there. He called it by a name that suggested it was really common and nothing to worry about. can any one tell me the name  when I see old peoples' fingers they look just like my one and as I'm mid 50's !!!

was it ganglions?
Jules - in a nutshell, ganglions are 'Parts & Combinations of Nerves'.
Jules - sorry, I first thought you were asking:  what is ganglions? - not: was it ganglions? My answer may come in handy though. :0)

no it wasn't ganglions (though that's what I originally thought) I seem to remember it started with an H sound though I could be wrong.

was it Heberden's nodes- which are hard lumps either side of the end joint on the fingers and a sign of a type arthritis. They are very common and as I type this I'm looking at 10.Im 51.

thanks, calleach I think you hit the nail on the head!!!!  I seem to remember that that is what he called it. I can now internet search the condition  - i'll pay more attention in future ( but at my age I seem to be getting more and more Senior Moments!!!!!!!!!!!)
