I have a really bad farting problem. I suffer from IBS and on some days I can be farting non stop. I know that diet dictates the amount of methane gas being released. Ok I dont consume carbonated drinks and beans are eaten in moderation.
Is there a product that reduces wind? This is not a joke question!

do you take any medication for your IBS?

Question Author
No I dont cazz.
Try Windeze gel caps, if there was a medal for farting Mr M would win a gold and they cure him. Good Luck
I have IBS and after taking the medication the wind, bloating, cramps ect have gone, I have to avoid foods like beans, cabbage, onion and anything too high in fat, otherwise I get really uncomfortable trapped wind.

Question Author
Cazz what medication is that? Is it non prescription?
Ask your GP if you can have your stools analysed.

I had a dreadful problem with wind, and faeces like chocolate mousse - I had a parasite in my bowel that is only found in some African countries. I had never been to Africa.

Some very unpleasant drugs put it right. :)
no its prescription only its called mebeverine

oh...cazz it sounds like fybogel? I used tot ake fybogel but it didnt really do much for me so now I dont take anything. I think I will try Windeze then. I dont know...how to ask a pharmacist for advice on the problem!
this is the sort of thing pharmacists deal with all the time (there'd be no point in them stocking cures otherwise), so no need to be embarrassed. You could always ask to see the senior chemist if you don't want to talk to an 18-year-old.
I wouldn't worry about the chemist - s/he will have had plenty of experience of people asking about *embarrassing problems* and won't bat an eyelid when you ask if there is anything you can take. In the meantime, have a peek at this site - it's brilliant - http://www.embarrassingproblems.co.uk/wind.htm
Mebeverine is an antispasmodic, you take it 20 minutes before meals and it relaxes the muscle in the gut, filthiestfis.Unfortunatly a lot of people have the side effect of itching and red patches on the skin when they use it.Cazz is very lucky to have found something that suits her.
That's a very interesting link you sent Jugglering. Many people suffer with wind and bowel problems but are too embarrassed to talk about it or to see their GP or pharmacist. After reading about it I now know which foods to try and avoid and have saved it to my favourites for future reference.
I suffer horribly too (being investigated for Crohns at the mo and spent that last few weeks looking pregnant!).

Windsettlers are quite good. I tried Fibrogel Meverthingy, buscopan and other over the counter IBS meds but they didn't really work for me.

I've got Spasmonol on repeat prescription which is pretty good, lanzoprazole on repeat for acid reflux and ulcers and take peppermint tablets and drink peppermint tea.

The best thing I've found is the drugs I have for my arthritis and suspected crohns, sulfasalazine.

Keep a food diary and see if you can spot any triggers.
You may have a food intolerance. Common undiagnosed intolerances include lactose (milk products) and gluten (wheat products). I am surprised nobody has suggested this already especially the gluten intolerance.

You can now get a genetic screening test for gluten intolerance (also known as Celiac disorder). Either have this test or try cutting out bread, pasta and wheat based cereals for a couple of weeks and see if it makes a difference.
Question Author
cutting out bread and pasta? nooooooooooo!!!!!!!! :-(
I think we are onto something here. People with food intolerances often love to eat what is bad for them.

Although it is a genetic disorder it often manifests later in life. I know it is in my family because my sister has it. She was diagnosed at age 45. We think it was in our maternal grandmother's family. Hoping that I have avoided it.

There are many substitute foods available as this disorder is quite common. You can even get gluten free bread at many supermarkets.

Google Celiac. There is a lot of information online.
cut down on carbs, it's the only way, i found the atkins diet marvellous for curing windy problems.
