Obviouosly you should get this checked out by a doctor, but in the mean time try a cold compress (bag of froxen peas in a tea towel).

Sports injuries can be very serious and should be checked out straight away by a medical expert.

Thank you to u both (Octavius and AB Editor) for your answers. I have been told to use an ice pack as well as massaging the ankle with oil. if there are any other tips etc please send me a line Regards!
My husband did the same , injured his ankle as a result of playing football. He walked home with it badly swollen and limped about for a bit , complaining that it was painful. I pushed him into going to the doctor because he was quite happy to sit with just a bandage on it and endure the pain but it is just as well he did because his ankle was not just swollen but indeed broken ! He had been hobbling about on it and had no idea , which I found quite bizarre. Have you seen  a doctor ? If not  I would strongly urge you to see your doctor for peace of mind. Not that I am suggesting that your ankle is broken but it's best to get it checked out by a professional and follow the appropriate medical advice. Hope it feels better soon x
oops , sorry. Posted that just as your answer appeared saying that you have received advice.
we were taught with that sort of stuff RICE, rest, ice, compression (tubigrip) to reduce the swelling, and elevation, also reduces the swelling
