need to pay my road tax (wanted to do it on line)and typically I can't find the renewal form - can i go to post office and get a copy

You can do it over the phone - 0870 850 4444. You will probably only need your car reg and personal details. Post Office won't be able to help you - they just take your money!

You can still apply online, but you will need to quote some numbers from the logbook rather than from the reminder form.

Go to http://www.vehiclelicence.gov.uk, select "Apply for a tax disc now" from the left side and follow the instructions there.

I think online is much simpler than that. If renewal form is not available you only need to enter the registration number.
