Car Tax

Hope someone can help me, I brought a new car on Sunday but it had no car tax, I have my car insurance and MOT and went to get my tax today but they will not give it to me until my insurance comes through, therefore my car has sat outside in car park by my flat, until my insurance arrives and will then get the tax.
I am so worried I may get a fine of 1000, I spoke to DVLA to see if anyway around it and they said "No" very helpful, I can not believe I could be penalised for buying a car and wanting to buy tax but I cant because the insurance note has not come through.
I have phoned my insurance and paid extra to get the paperwork sent through urgently and I prey it comes through tomorrow so I can sort it, does anyone have any advice or if I am likely to get a fine? paperwork was signed on log book as handover of car on 30/09, and on the V10 form ive listed this and the insurance ot start on 01/09?
Any help
Thanks,
Steve

Ps) Something else ive noticed on the DVLA website on vehicle enquiry, if you put in my car reg it says "Unlicenced" which has now made me concerned that the garage did not declare it as Sorn, could I be penalised for this if this i the case, even though log book only shows me taking the car from 30.09? I hope someone can help
thanks

dont worry, garages do not have to put cars on sorn, when a garage buys a car,a portion on the v5 is for traders and is sent off to the dvla saying a trader or dealer has bought the car,now you have bought it and are going to tax it asap, there is nothing to worry about.

Thanks for the reply, still no insurance paperwork so the car still sits outside, really worried about this fine, DVLA are so unhelpful and just say "If no tax, you will get fined upto 1k"
I really can not afford that to happen, is it likely?
Thanks
Have you not got a freind who could store it for you off the road, say on a drive or in a garage
if this is a free car park the car is not legally classed as being on the road so you should not have a problem don't worry too much !!!

Yes it is a free residential car park, no already tried that my mate has a drive but his car is currently dead on it, just trying not ot worry just dont want this fine, thanks again
I wouldn't worry to much! You have insurance and an MOT, all you are waiting for is the insurance certificate. No problem! You see when you buy the tax you will buy it from the beginning of the month. Even the police and bureaucrats know what paperwork lag is like. Happy driving.
ps. Don't go on the road till you've got your tax disc!!
