police cars go when they are pensioned off ?

You never see an elderly cop car, so where do they go ? If they are sold off at auction, how come we never see them on the highway or are they resprayed before they are sold ? Or are those go faster stripes and other pretty colours just stuck on ?

(PS This is important and useful knowledge...........)

they normally have the decals removed and are sold on, I almost bought myself an ex police vauxhall vectra, just missed out though!!

yep spot on Leg, I actually bought one once from auction at Nottingham, It was a ford escort, And the first diesel car we ever had, bit of a mess under the bonnet where they had removed wiring for flashing lights and siren etc but quite a good car.

I had a 3.5 V8 rover ex cop car back in 1981 ...it was damn fast ...Had extra vented brakes and alloy light weigth wheels ...loved that car ...
Dont know how i'm still alive to tell the tale ...the stunts and speed I used to do in that car ...134 mph on the M11 once ...
Used to get 11 MPG ...ha ha

Yes it was a SD1 ....
White of course ...but was an umarked car when in the police ....

Well worth a buy for a cheap run around.

Yes they may have clocked up 200,000 miles but police cars are meticulously kept whilst on the road. They have to be!!!

I saw a Volvo T5 estate go for about �800 once, when the equivalent book price was around 7k!!!!.

On a related note, it is well worth visiting Police Auctions whereby they sell off unclaimed lost and stolen property but more importantly goods seized under "The Proceeds of Crime Act".

This means you can buy goods from wealthy criminals homes purchased via their ill-gotten criminal activity.

I bought a car profession car steamer for about �12 a few years ago, when they retail for about �500. Bargain!!!

My friend bought two Rolex watches for about 5k when the street value was about 12K.

The good thing is the Police and their family are not allowed to go, so the public get the bargains.

hi miss j! i only drive ex police cars! every car i have ever owned was ex police and being from n.ireland..they were all bullet proofed,which was handy! there's an auction here that now and again holds ex government sales.
have to say that the best one i ever had was an ex special branch sierra 4x4,bullet proof and bomb proof(lots of kevlar pannels underneath) and tuned to the hilt..that car could really shift...till my mum killed it by crashing it into a bin lorry!

I think they are auctioned off, as in 1981 we bought an old Black Maria with all the fitting taken out and obviously no flashing lights!
