A growth on the spine turned out to be a benign tumor. It is being operated on next week. Has anyone had one of these - Do they keep you awake for the op as its on the spine? Once it has been removed is that it? Any info would be gratefully appreciated! Thanks

I cant give you an answer, but ideally you should have asked more questions when you saw the consultant or asked his nurse, cant you make an appt with your GP and tell him how worried you are and ask him ? Are you going in on the same day as the op ? have they told you nil by mouth ? this should give you some clue, are you going home same day ?Once removed your problem should be over.
Good luck anyway, I am sure you will be fine.
Ask questions. Your Consultant should be informing you at all times. Benign is good. On the spine is not. Have you been advised regarding the prognosis? Have you been informed that if the operation is not totally successful you could possibly be paralysed ?!! Cannot believe that you have not been told of the possible consequences of surgery or what might happen if you don't have surgery. Consult your GP/Consultant immediately. And do not consent to anything until you totally understand the consequences of any action presumed necessary.

Its not me that has it. It is my boyfriends dad. He's not said much as he doesn't want us to worry so we were just trying to find out more. Thanks for the answers
