I've been Growing my Hair now for 10 months i grew it from scratch as i used to get my hair shaved. So whenever i went into the hairdressers i would just ask for a Number 1 or 2.But now some people are saying that i should get it trimmed but i still want to keep it long.If that makes sense. So what exactly would i ask for?.I haven't been to the hairdressers for 10 months now.

I've been growing mine since May 2003. But I have it trimmed and thinned out every ten weeks or so to keep it in check. I'm finding that sometimes it goes just how I like it and sometimes it looks a pig. You have to persevere if you have a length you are aiming for and it spends forever going through that annoying "inbetween Stage". After almost eighteen months, I still feel I am at that stage, but as I say I do have a trim every now and again. If you really want to grow it just persevere and experiment with different styles. I have mine a bit "indie" just over collar length at the back and fringe about eyebrow length, and over my ears at the sides. And I ruffle it up with Hair Putty. Think Vernon Kay but not quite as long and not as girly lolol.
I know whats its like trying to grow your hair it seems like an eternity and it grows only slightly. When going to the hairdressers I would explain to them that you are trying to grow your hair and be very clear that you only want to get rid of the spilt ends, I would ask for 1/2 inch off all over which you wont really notice in terms of the length. One of the problems when growing hair is because people don't want to lose any length they don't get it trimmed regularly and then the hair gets dry. What has happened to me in the past is that i have let it get so dry that it starts to break when brushing, when this happens you begin to lose length in the hair because essentially you are losing bits of the end of your hair. I would advise getting your hair trimmed every 8 weeks, if you stay on top of it then they wont have to take alot of. Also consider doing a hot oil treatment or deep condition once a week to maintain the moisture and prevent split ends. Hope this helps!
you need to tell the hairdresser you no longer want your hair clippered you just want it trimmed into the style you want with scissors, also if you dont want much off the length ask them to chip into it (they will know what you mean if the're any good) also beware of the thinning scissors, overuse can make your hair look frizzy and split looking(i'm a barber)
I suggest you look through magazines until you find a picture of a style you like, on someone with a similar texture hair as yourself. If you take the picture along to the hairdresser it is easier than trying to describe what you want.

Ive grown my hair and had it cut and gone throught the stages etc a few times, first ov all i grew it from scratch and didnt have it cut 4 about 10 months maybe and then got it cut in toni and guy but had alot taken off on top and had like a long fringe and sides and spikey top, then i grew it out again and had it cut again at the back and grew it again then had it cut to about just below ear length so u cant see em still now im growin it again and its cummin on well but i do admit there is a stage where you will hate your hair cuz it wont go right etc but stick wid it and it will get to where you want it.

Speaking of Vernon Kay i saw in another post, i am often told i look like the cheeky bolton dude but take this as a compliment as i fink the guy is cool and has to be said has cool hair.

Anywyas if sumtimes your hair aint goin right try a hat or if u dont wanna wear a hat sumtimes a head band will do, not girly and looks good at times.

sorry and also does anyone know what Vernon Kay uses on his hair, i use TIGI Bedhead Manipulator, from toni and guy great stuff giv it a try.
