any body got any idea how long i'd need to take of work for a hernia operation ?would 2 weeks be enough? i have a fairly physical job btw.

Recovery time depends onm the type of hernia repair you are having as well as your own phsical condition. Sutures/clips are removed between 7-14 days. Follow the advise of the surgeons, if you can transfer to non-physical work you may be able to return to work earlier but if that is not an option it my be wise to only return to work once the wounds are healed. Goog look with the surgery.

Hey mindbullets not seen you around for a while. I had a major hernia operation about 6 years ago and it was BIG! I had an office job at the time so I went back to work after 2 weeks although it was still very uncomfy. My dad had one though and he is a removals man, major heavy lifting and he went back to work after about 4 weeks but, like the previous poster says, your nurses/surgeon will advise you when you can safely go back to work. Incidently, just so that you know, I still have twitches now and again so don't worry about that if it happens later on. Best of luck mate.

Depends on the type of hernia op you have. If it is an 'open' operation and you have a physically demanding job I'm sure they advise 4-6 weeks. The recovery period however is reduced if you have the op done laparoscopically(keyhole) which is becoming more prevalent these days.

Have to agree with the other posts.....2 weeks OK for a sedentary job but you must be realistically looking at a minimum of a month. You wouldn`t want to start it off all over again would you? Best Wishes.
