In the above song, George sings a line about "Sleepless nights on an H.P. bed", or at least that's what it sounds like. What is the correct lyric (H.P. bed?), and what the hell is an H.P bed anyway?

It is the correct lyric. An 'H.P. bed will be one bought on hire purchase (H.P.) which was the agreement used before simple credit agreements were popular. The point of the reference is that the singer feels his friend will be loosing his single man freedom and become saddled with debt and a marriage before he is ready.
