Is it true that hair starts cleaning itself after a while if you, don't use shapmoo or anything, just use water to wash it?

My aunt is a hairdresser and she said it takes about 6 months for that to happen.
Also, it is absolutely minging in this six-month period and even after this stage, although your hair is "clean", it actually has the appearance (usually) of being very dry and yucky.
no it doesnt indie, i knew someone who was 19 and had never washed her hair in her life and it was very healthy looking hair, more so than most peoples.
It does smell though. Even hair which hasn't been washed for a few days smells awful. What's wrong with having freshly washed clean hair every day?
Why aren't dreadlocks self-cleaning then?
The problem with doing this is not human secretions but atmospheric dirt. If you lived in somewhere with no atmospheric polution, then it might work but hair picks up dirt just like hands and faces do, hence the need to wash it.
My clothes clean themselves if I just leave them lying around the house.
i didnt wash my hair for 9 months when a student and aget a couple of months it started to get cleaner and less greasy, although it felt like it was getting cleaner i still felt that shampoo did a much better job, i would say the myth is right but overhyped
When I was 16 I had an operation on my spine and I was in a plaster cast up to my neck so I couldn't wash my hair for 6 months. It was greasy and vile so we used to shake talcum powder onto it and then brush it out and it worked really well. You don't need shampoo.
