I didn't know where to put this one but here goes anyway. What are the chances that we really are alone in the universe?

Sure feels that way, sometimes. One can begin to doubt that there is intelligent life on earth, some days! My guess is that ancient people did have visitors from Someplace and that they hoped for a return visit. But it may have been rather like that film about a chap who found a Coke bottle -- The Gods Must Be Crazy. I sure hope we are not the most intelligent life form in the universe -- this or any other universe. Seems likely that there are beings who have managed better. I sure hope so. Bummer, if we bipeds are the best, brightest there is.
it is not arrogant to use our current understanding of light speed as a limiting factor for inter-stellar travel, but that is a different question. Are we alone? well yes of course we are. we are alone in our tiny corner of space. To date we have had no luck in communicating with extra terestrial life forms ( although many, many peple are "listening" out for a potential contact ) Whether ET has the knowledge and technology to visit us or more probaly to contact us can not be debated as we cannot possibly know this. In short: is earth the only place that supports life? probably not. are we in contact with ET life forms? absolutly not.
