mima - from what I have heard/read, this was the first pizza invented - not the brand names of course - but the kind of pizza:

I cant find heston blumenthal's recipe online but this one looks very similar: It's half way down the page

Heston's difference was that he used italian "00" flour, live yeast, buffalo mozzarella and made his own passata (by pressure cooking large cherry tomato flesh for 5 hours with oregano, bay and tyme)
To get your oven hotter than the dial allows put the grill on full after the oven's reached max. Use an upturned cast iron frying pan that's been on full heat for 20 mins to put the pizza on. Place it high in the oven so the pizza's near the grill. Should take a couple of mins to cook but i havent tried it myself yet!
Here's an update, i tried this last night and it worked super well - very authentic looking and tasting, complete with 'stonebaked' mottled underside!
The recipe i used was similar to the dads dinner one but i used honey instead of sugar and fast action yeast.
The oven trick really does work, it was so hot the skin underneath my finger nails was roasting. The pizza cooked in 2 minutes and was first class. The plain flour tasted nice so i dont think i'll bother paying quadruple the price for 00 flour
You really need a wood burning oven to get the smokey base taste, but try working sugar into the base to make it crunchy! Works for the tuscans :)
