Can anyone tell me if I am in the minority here. I (occasionally, like today) get invited to fancy dress parties.

As soon as I see this on the invite I immediately have to come up with an excuse; I cannot think of anything worse.

I know what you are gonna say , "Where's your sense of humour" , "oh, just go and enjoy it, it will be a laugh" etc etc but I am sorry I fail to see the joy in it and leading up to the big night would fill me with a sickening dread.

I love them, as long as Im a bit tipsy, I feel I enjoy the night even more because Im not having to be myself if you get what I mean. Ive been dressed as anything from the 118 man to a rubiks cube
what is it about them you dislike?
i avoid them, don't know why i just find them really annoying!
Pass the invite on to me...I would love to go....even have a costume all planned out! lol

Thanks 4get me not, a good point. I can see what you mean.
Sophie they may just suit some people and not others. Personally, I come across very confident but am really quite shy - it took me till I went to uni to get over it and try not to be so shy. I am no social retard or anything and am bubbly and chatty but I think that any direct focus on me ie stage, karaoke, fancy dress fills me with a kind of stage - fright.
I'm the same. I think it's the "you're dressed up and that's funny so you HAVE to have fun" kind of conception that I don't get. Don't like being told what I should find funny! lol
And if you happen to not enjoy the party, you look a right muppet all dressed up but with a foot long face! lol
Oh right, wasn't sure if you had a problem with others getting dressed up!Personally I love fancy dress parties, always used to be a bit shy but since starting going out with my boyfriend I've gained a lot of confidence.
have you ever done fancy dress at all sunflower, you might find after doing it you do like it
although i did get dressed up for the rocky horror show and that didn't bother me hmmmmmmm
i know what u mean sometimes i can find it all abit cheesy, but i would be lying if i said i didnt enjoy it once im out oh and it also saves the mither of buying a new out fit and spening a fortune( if your like me a new outfit for every night out) because you can just hire.
maybe coz everyone else dresses up fluff
who was you dressed as mccfluff? lol
I think the thought of leaving the house dressed up in a costume is mortifying (omg the driveway suddenly feels like its miles away!)

so If I were you I would brave it, have a stiff drink before you leave and relax

why not get a costume that is subtle?
oh I make sure I meet round a mates first and get changed there to go to anywhere we are going to
I quite enjoy them, I'm going to a fancy dress festival in august this year - should be a total riot!
When younger I used to hate fancy dress parties aswell, but now I love them! My favourite outfit is a punk outfit (I've got it stored away in case I get invited to any more fancy dress parties!). One of the cleverest 'costumes' I saw though was someone dressed in ordinary clothes wearing a Blue Peter badge - they were a Blue Peter presenter!
