Just wondered, how long does a divorce take roughly?
I thought I remember reading you had to be separated for 2 years first and then somebody else said it takes 6 months?
Both parties are in agreement and there are no children involved
Perhaps someone could advise timescale involved?
Thanks

it all depends on the reason your divorcing. If one has committed adultry and the other person is happy to cite this in the paperwork it shouldn't take too long. If you have been seperated for a while and have no contact I think you have to wait between 2 and 4 years. I got divorced, amicably and welfare of the children including child maintenance was sorted and dealt with without having to attend court, I did leave him the house though and I left. I got my forms through the courts rather than through a solicitor as they are only out to get your money. but you might need one if your are not amicably divorcing and you have the house etc to divide. My divorce from start to finish took 6 months but that also depends on how busy the courts are. My friend's only took 4 months and again got the forms from the courts.
I was in the same situation, both parties in agreement and we had no children.

We didn't want to pay through the nose for the divorce, so we opted for a legal separation, when 2 years had passed the divorce paper drawn at a cost of 60, which was far cheaper than if we'd done it immediately. We were both happy to wait the 2 years as neither of us had intentions of remarrying.

As they are both in agreement do they need to seaprate for 2 years first before they can start proceedings or can they start then ball rolling now - ie with a view to being divorced in the next 6 months say?
Yes, they can start proceedings straight away if they like, we just waited out the 2 year legal separation to keep costs down.
hello i got divorced two years ago and if both parties involved agree to it after a seperation of two years if there is no contention it can take as little as three months - thats all it took me ! good luck hope this helps
It takes two years if you are divorcing because of separation, but only 6 months if one person is divorcing the other because the marriage has broken down. To get a divorce after six months, one partner needs to cite grounds for the divorce, e.g. the other partners adultery, unreasonable behaviour, etc, to show the marriage has broken down. If both partners agree and one doesn't mind being divorced by the other, this is the quickest way to get divorced amicably because you can come up with some fairly mild examples of 'unreasonable behaviour' e.g. spending too long in the pub - but if you are not in a hurry and can wait two years then neither partner needs to take the 'blame' for the marriage breakdown.
