Can a car that is approaching 3 years old be MOT'd prior to the due date. I am aware that post dating by 1 month is permitted for consecutive tests but I am unsure regarding the first test.

If the vehicle is taken for its first MoT, within the month prior to its due date, and the V5C registration document is presented at the same time, the certificate will be dated to expire 12 months after the due date, rather than 12 months after the actual test date.

you can have a car mot any time you want,we at our private hire firm,have to have our cars mot every six months,and that includes any car under 3 yrs old,so in theory its up to you.
