Does the government inform you when your car is due its first MOT. Is it still when the car is 3 yrs old?

I don't think so, don't remember them ever contacting me, but surely you know when your car was registered?
You can sign up for a reminder.

You learn something everyday, thanks Naomi ;o)
It's new to me too, Baldric. I was curious so googled it.
You can also check whether a vehicle has a valid MOT certificate, and when the next test is due, here:
https://www.gov.uk/check-mot-status
Baldric.."surely you know when your car was registered"....some come on here not knowing their insurance company.....and (I suspect) whether they passed their driving test, or even if they can drive at all.
The DVLA MOT link doesn’t find my car.

Valid point there Ginge ;o)
Zacs:
Did you enter your car's registration number in the format illustrated? (i.e. without any spaces)
Yep
You seem to driving a figment of your imagination then, Zacs ;-)
