there seems to be a lot here about the bible being proof for the existence of god/jesus etc. However, that's only one book. There is therefore much more evidence for the existence of Harry Potter or James Bond. Discuss

Am I rightin saying that bible is made up of several books spanning hundreds of years written by people not actually evident at the time , but written from stories passed down through generations? It was then put together by person or persons unknown as there are no author details in the covers ? If that the case me mates - cousins - husbands - unlce's - brother in laws - cousin shagged 12 birds in one night cause I got iit in an email .
My telephone directory doesn't list who wrote it. I'm beginning to have serious doubts as to its reliability.
There would be an easy way to check that one though .. Just pick a random page , random entry and ring them , ask them who they are and where they live , if it matches the entry it's true ...easy peasy
CHRISTIAN FACT: God/Jesus loves everyone in the world. IRONY: and so chose to spend time and give His words to only a fraction of the world for the first 4,000 years or so of human existance. CONCLUSION: Chinese didn't matter to God until about 800 years ago. CHRISTIAN FACT: The Bible is the infallable word of God, beyond contestation, and/or the 'rule book' by which, ideally, you should live your life. IRONY: Since this is a compilation of many books, aren't we worshipping the people who decided which books to include in the Bible? CONCLUSION: We are taught to believe in the Bible because it is the oldest written words in existence (Genesis-Deuteronomy) that make some sort of sense.... oh, and the people who wrote the Bible, because they said they bring the Word of God, we must believe them.
HarryR .. acople of things on the book of mormon .. The title page of the Book of Mormon, written by its final author, Moroni, near 400 A.D., said that the purposes of the book were: Convince both Gentiles and Jews that Jesus is The Christ, the eternal God To show the remnants of the House of Israel the great things that the Lord had done for their ancestors To teach them the covenants of the Lord For me, the primary purpose of the book is to bring souls to Christ. It is a powerful witness of Jesus Christ and wonderfully centered on Him. A careful examination of this book may overwhelm the reader who relishes uncertainty, for little of that is left. It provides a powerful independent witness of the reality of Jesus Christ and his divine mission. It restores plain and beautiful truths about the Gospel of Christ which have been obscured for centuries by the teachings of men. It proves that the heavens are not sealed, that truth and revelations yet remain for us to feast upon. And it indirectly confirms that the translator of this monumental ancient record, Joseph Smith, Jr., was indeed a prophet of the living God. So there we have it , an authored book bearing witness to the reality of the life of Jesus Christ and threfore the existance of the Lord God Almighty ..... ..End of !!!
"The Man did begin the largest revolutionary paradigm in histroy." "It proves that the heavens are not sealed, that truth and revelations yet remain for us to feast upon. And it indirectly confirms that the translator of this monumental ancient record, Joseph Smith, Jr., was indeed a prophet of the living God. " What a bunch of fruitcakes there is out there! Incidentally is Joseph Smith the one with all the wives?
I believe that after 2000 years plus, any story/incident can seem important if its documented enough. I believe in 2000 years we will all be reading Nokia instruction manuals preaching 'Thal shalt not text the niebours wife', and stuff
old nick, You quote from the book of mormon 'Convince both Gentiles and Jews that Jesus is The Christ, the eternal God'. I'd go along with that, I'll convince the jews but as for Claudio Gentiles you can forget it. I remember him in the 1982 Italian world cup winning team, he certainly took no prisoners and I for one won't be going out of my way to upset him with religous talk.
Bob A Job, When you mention texting the neighbours wife, didn't Jimmy Neighbour play for Spurs in the 1971 FA cup final, (don't know what his wife was doing that afternoon).
HarryR , You are wrong my unlearned friend , Jimmy Neighbour did not play for spurs in the 71 FA cup Final , it was actually the football league cup final 1971 .As for his wife she was probably holidaying in their favourite resort Newquay in Cornwall .As a matter of interest Jimmy Neighbour is back with Spurs as Assistant Academy Director Under-9 to Under-16 and under -19 team coach .
There's often confusion regarding the cup performances of Spurs. They are known for winning the cup when the year ends in '1', people therefore assume it's the FA Cup but as ddevil points out that's not the case, as in 1971 Spurs did indeed win the League Cup. Rockney musicians Chas n Dave (aka Charles Hodges & David Peacock) have done much to publicise the cup exploits of Spurs in years ending in one, their 1991 classic ballad 'it's lucky for spurs when the year ends in one' being a prime example. Other Spurs related classics by the Cockney duo (Chas on piano & Dave on bass) include 'Ossies dream' in 1981, 'Tottenham Tottenham' in 1982, 'Hot shot Tottenham' in 1987 and 'The rabbit song' in 1664. This controversial song includes the lyric 'You got more rabbit than Sainsburys, Its time you got it off your chest'. This inspired the high street grocery chain to expand their selection of game products so that they then had the greater amount of rabbit. This forced Chas and Dave to change their lyrics to 'I've got my beer in the sideboard here, let mother sort him out if he comes round ere'.
To suggest such evidence comparison is beyond commonsense. There is not the slightest doubt to any studious person that jesus existed. Josephus, a reliable historian said so and the jews acknowledge it though it serves them no good purpose..very unjewish!! .The Bible is only PORTRAYED as evidence, clearly a biography is not evidence unless there are other supporting evidences.Harry Potter is admitted to be a figment of the imagination as is Bond..re Jabba, James is thought in some quarters to be the elder brothe rof Jesus and was "the Joseph" of "Arimathea" ..or "ha Rama Theo". To many, Jesus took over the "David" role, properly belonging to James who seemingly didn't give a toss...he was busy with his tin mine business and socialising with the jews and Romans..thus his providing the 'tomb' and taking the 'body' of Jesus very early and undamaged from the 'tree' was simply organised. No serious social scientist would scientifically deny then existance of Jesus the man and so your suggestion becomes absurd.Neverthe less it has value and you have every right to ask it. Cheers
