I have been using a damp stainless steel scouring ball on mine for years.

Gentle rubbing lifts the marks without scratching. Like this one, available from all supermarkets

Hobrite is excellent, no scratching or scraping. Can be bought at your local Diy store.
I do more or less the same as Ethel....sometimes I use a soapy Brillo pad and a bit of elbow grease... it doesn't scratch no matter what people say to the contrary. . Hobrite is just Jif or any own brand cream cleaner with a fancy name .
OR just use a very sharp razor blade
yep, i have a scraper thing which came with the hob. it's like a razor blade in a holder. works great.
Like dilligaf I use hobrite - you can buy it in the supermarkets, just look in the cleaning section.

thanks to everyone.
One method that won't do any harm is to just leave a wet cloth on it overnight.
I use the Barkeepers friend (which is a powder)...And what that doesn't shift I just use the blade thing that came with it....It takes no time at all and it's spotless
