Just say you won a really big amount on the Lotto, say....a few million, how honest would you be with your nearest and dearest? Cos no matter what you give some people, they would still think they should have more? possibly. Would you say you had won 10,000 and are giving everyone 500 so they would think you really generous? Rather than say you had won 5 million and they all expect a few thousand each?

I would give myself lots of time to think about what I wanted to do with all the money before I told anyone. Initially, I would only tell my partner. Also, I'd get professional financial advice if it was a huge amount.
I only have a small family unit so there wouldnt be a problem and i would go out and buy my Mum her dream bungalow first of all!
All i want from life is to own my own house, i dont want a mansion, far from it, just something big enough for a family of 4. A holiday would be nice but i would get great pleasure from seeing my lovely family right! I wouldnt and couldnt resist telling those closest to me anyway! This would be different if i had a large family i suppose though with lots of cousins, aunties and uncles etc....
Other than my husband, I would NEVER tell anyone what I had won. Having said that, I would be very generous with my family and friends, for a big win say 2m, I would give half shared between family and friends and charity and would put a quarter away in trust for the kids and keep the rest. But I think that you are right, if they knew how much you had won then whatever you gave away would not seem like the right amount to somebody. I would also not tell anyone for a few weeks after the win, so that they could not speculate and calculate based on the jackpot that week. Only downside is that it would mean going to work for an extra few weeks!!!!
I would give my husband half and let him full fill his dreams. Make sure my two daughters had a fair share. One already has her own house. Make sure my four grand children had some to spend now and some put aside. Not forgetting the new arrival due in two weeks.
I think I too would sit on it for a while. I'm afraid if I won something like 1-2 million I'd keep most of it myself, after all, you can spend the best part of a million on a house these days. There's a 3 bedroom semi down my road that's up for sale for half a million! If I won a rollover and won something like 20 million that might be a different matter. Either way I'd buy a bigger house, a villa in Florida and put some away for the kids. Both Mr Spudqueen and I have quite large families though, so I'd need a long think!
My mum and I have a pact so we would split it equally between us. My brothers would get some but they are very stingy with money so not too much. Then I would share it with my boyfriend - get a house, go on holiday and for our future.
cousins would likely get nothing, though I would consider giving them a couple of grand or so if i thought it would help them out, not just because they wanted it.
most are pretty well off anyway so it wouldn;t be a life changing thing.
aunties and uncles would get a small amount just as a gesture.
depends on the amount really - if it was like 5 million i wouldn't mind a few grand here and there, there are loads of them, but i don't see my cousins often so wouldn't feel obliged

mum, dad, sis, bro would get a good whack
as for friends i wouldn't just dish out to them, i would give them what they need - little car, pay a bill, holiday, fix the roof, course fees, equipment, start up business costs etc, as i wouldn't want them thinking i was a cash machine
