Occasionally the answer to a question does not appear even though the questioner sends thanks for the answer. Why? It always seems to be the one I most want to find out.

Because the poster gets suspended (for an unwritten rule such as answering too many posts in so many minutes). Then with the suspension some of you answers get withdrawn to punish you I presume. Hence the phantom answers. When you are reinstated your answers reappear. Happened to me, I was over enthusiastic. Currently a lot of chat on this subject because one of the best has been suspended.
How can you answer too many posts or too enthusiastically? I thought that was the point. Where are these rules?!!
This may make sense in some other answerbank areas where answers to a question become an argument between two users - but makes absolutely no sense here in Q & P . This needs some common sense being exercised by the editor !

There is apparently a rule about not posting again within so many minutes. I think anything that will get us suspended should appear somewhere on the site or how are we to know. If you look on the next page you will see a lot of discussion on this same subject headed "Samurite".

Thanks for the explanation Grasscarp, Paulineward etc. I only joined today and find it all a bit puzzling. Are the rules printed anywhere? I would not like to fall foul of them without even knowing what they are.
That's debatable about the rules valkell! But do not be put off, we get these little blips from time to time.
