have lost 2 budgies due to strokes age 2. have an old budgie now 10 are strokes normal in young ones or just have been unlucky

Strange this - I have known budgies live to a great age but my mum and my brother have lost 3 very young budgies in the last couple of years due to strokes. The trouble is budgies tend to go downhill quite quickly if they get ill and I think you have just been unlucky.
