I am going to Paris, and am hoping to get a nice bottle of champagne for a friend, but I don't have any idea about which is the best to buy. Are there different types of champagne? help me please someone!

Well, if you're looking for a nice bottle at an affordable price, then try Moet and Chandon, - normally about 25 a bottle, unless you want vintage. Try this site - http://www.thewinedoctor.com/regionalguides/champagne.shtml to find out more!
Hmm - is your friend living in Paris? If so, it's likley she would be able to get champagne more easily and at a better price than you as champers is of course made in France. Opinions vary with peoples tastes. How much do you want to spend? I am a big fan of Cristal (but at circa 100 a bottle I rarely get to drink it) and I don't like M&C. As regards diffrent types, certainly there are different producers but to be champagne it must be grown on the champagne region of france.
If you are going to France I would avoid Moet and Chandon. Although it's a nice Champagne, it's available in every Threshers and Vic Wine over here. I would go for a unusual Champagne that you rarely see here. Or if you have a penchant for Rap Music and a bit of Bling, what about Puff Daddy's favourite Cristal - at $260 a bottle!
i recently tred Laurent Perrier Pink Champagne - its was delicious! gorgeous box too!!
tattinger, veuve clicquot, bollinger, pol roger are all exceptional and (in the uk) will cost about 20-30 . if you really want to spoil your friend then a bottle of krug (non vnintage) will cost (in the uk) about 60-80 or a bottle of 1996 dom perignon will cost (in the uk) about 100 - 120. avoid moet if you can its not as good as you'd think, people only buy it because its the most famous one. the one thing with champagne is that you really do get what you pay for so if you spend 15 it will not be great (unless you get a special offer)
I'm with lilacstar, that pink laurent perrier champagne wins hands down for me every time - cool bottle, pink and champagne - what more could you ask for...
Im also with Lilacstar and becks Laurent Perrier Pink Champagne is the best
Gordon Rouge or Dom Ruitenhart
I'd go for Mumm Cordon Rouge. Reliable and reasonable.
Mr Gary "Dom Perignon" is made by Moet et Chandon.
yes archbishop i realise that but i think even you would agree that vintage dom perignon at 120 a bottle is going to better quality than its non vintage one at 20 a bottle eh!
A total waste of money.
I've had Lansons and I've had M & C but I like Bollinger the best for around 25 - 30 a bottle. its nice for treating yourselves.
