through teletext. That's the only way I know. The subtitle option in the menu on my box doesn't work.

On mine, I have to go to menu - set up - audio options

And put subtitles on. They are permanently on, even when you change channel or switch off.

They will be recorded onto your video or dvd recordings too.

I've got a 'subtitles' button on my freeview remote control and so can switch them on and off like I can on normal telly.
